Quoted in the Grove:
One must be drenched in words, literally soaked in them, to have the right ones form themselves into the proper patterns at the right moment.
~Hart Crane
The writer must be able to revel and roll in the abundance of words; he must know not only the direct but also the secret power of a word. There are overtones and undertones to a word, and lateral echoes, too.
~Knut Hamsun
To speak of “mere words” is much like speaking of “mere dynamite”.

Making ‘words’ the theme of this week’s quotes provides an opportunity to reintroduce Anu Garg’s, A Word A Day (AWAD) to readers of the WP&R. AWAD has been described by the New York Times as, “The most welcomed, most enduring piece of daily mass e-mail in cyberspace.”
Each daily email contains a language-stretching, sometimes exotic word. Sometimes it’s a word you merely thought you knew. With each day’s word, there’s the additional gift of an unrelated quote. Readers may recognize some of these quotes in this newsletter. If not already following, click on the link below for the day’s example, and a chance to join. If you love words, it’s a treat you owe yourself
