Wow! Our two week vacation from the Post & Review is over so … so quickly. This being the summer season, the Great Dispersion has set in. Happens every year.  Ya peeps are out there livin’ it! Perfect! You’ve better things to do with your summer, so we’ll not use up much of your sun time with make-news

Those attending this week’s Word Game (tomorrow, see below), are being asked to be on the alert for provocative, image-intensive words, and to bring a favorite to be used in this week’s Impromptu, or the Prewritten exercise for next week’s game

Piffin will be Guest Editor for the July 21 edition of the Wordgrove Post & Review

All y’all better be working on your own writing projects during this break. Weeks of summer leisure are yours to fill creatively. A couple stories, some journal entries, one good poem you’ve spent time with … something. Anything. You’ll be pleased. It’s good for you. It really is

Quoted in the Grove:

A fashionable milieu is one in which everybody’s is made up of the opinion of all the others. Has everybody a different opinion? Then it is a literary milieu.
~Marcel Proust

Literature is strewn with the wreckage of those who have minded beyond reason the opinions of others.
~Virginia Woolf

Nothing contributes more to peace of soul than having no opinion at all.

Honoring this newsletter’s annual tradition, this will be the last edition before the Wordgrove Post & Review goes on summer hiatus. This break gives the editor time to work on his current project. A twice monthly edition will appear on the 1st & 3rd Sun of each month during the three month break. Anyone interested in catching up on back issues can do so at: https://wordgrovepost.wordpress.com

WG’s weekly Word Games will continue thru’out the summer. Meeting notifications will go out to regular attendees (Tmail, not club mail) with details on the week’s Prewritten assignment and other events. Anyone not regularly attending who wishes to be included in this list please notify BarTalk

This would be a good time for those who want a part in keeping Wordgrove active during the break to schedule events of their own. Altho member houses are likely to be used, WG’s clubhouse is always available. Event hosts are welcome to redecorate Writers in Residence (Hermit 005) to suit their needs

Glass Table:

~ReenRen: 1 out of 5 calls recorded

Prewritten:  science, whip

~Stejovis: a sonnet
Tho the mysteries fall one by one to the rigors of science, some escape; forever

~Piffin: Cricket Song
Send the Sun home, enter Dusk the twilight world with a glass of voluptuous red, languor’s nectar; a symphony of chirrs in chorus with a cool and benevolent moonlight to soothe away the weariness and the heedless hurt of friends

~BarTalk: haiku

~

Impromptu: shatterproof, beckon

~Hensonian: Shatterproof
The heart as a brilliant glass protected from love, boxed, in a cage, in a cave … grows dull; even armored, a delicate beauty dies without eyes to give it meaning

~Stejovis: Bits in a Bottle
All the memories of life jumbled in a bottle that holds only so much; ingredients in a recipe, memories like spices bubble to the surface releasing their fragrance, but only so many not to muddle the taste

Writing is to descend like a miner to the depths of the mine with a lamp on your forehead, a light whose dubious brightness falsifies everything, whose wick is in permanent danger of explosion, whose blinking illumination in the coal dust exhaust and corrodes your eyes.  ~Blaise Cendrars

Writing, at its best, is a lonely life. Organizations for writers palliate the writer’s loneliness but I doubt if they improve his writing. He grows in public stature as he sheds his loneliness and often his work deteriorates. For he does his work alone and if he is a good enough writer he must face eternity, or the lack of it, each day.  ~Ernest Hemingway

Nihilism is best done by professionals.  ~Iggy Pop

A reminder that this week’s Word Game is taking place tomorrow (Mon, 06.10), instead of Thurs. Meeting time is the same 5pm PT / 8pm ET. This new day for meeting will be in effect thru’out the summer

Also, next week will be the last regularly scheduled newsletter for the summer.  Twice monthly issues of the Wordgrove Post & Review will begin the first week in July. Guest editors are welcome. Pick a week, perhaps late summer, and spend a month or two crafting a polished edition. Have fun with it. It will be posted online at: https://wordgrovepost.wordpress.com

@Writers Platform
Glass Table:

~Greenie: A Dream You Dream
Dreams wiser than the dreamer, flights of joy rising higher than flights of fancy, the blowback when dreams invade the world

~Wizardofoz: Heaven Can Wait
The last frontier and great Unknowable, dread it or face it with excitement; one hand raised, he’ll volunteer; yes he’ll go, but wouldn’t it be neat instead for live evidence to fall from the sky with real answers

~Stejovis: Various Sonnets  (previously reviewed)

Prewritten: write a sonnet

~Stejovis: in the manner of an Italian sonnet
Eagles fly the same space where imagination soars, where once they collided in a mind-meld, eyes too; aloft, the small world below, full wonder and amazement, then the dizzy fall, crash landing to awareness; Score: Adventure-8, Broken bones-0

a simple word sonnet  (quoted)

lonely
bird
calls
across
open
sky;
who
needs
me
now,
my
nest
is
empty

~Piffin: Countenance
The rituals of worship slowly take hold, free the mind for devotion; then emerges the vision of God’s own brightest jewel, the visage of one’s beloved; adoration for the God who gave her beauty, gave her radiance with a heart

~BarTalk: Rue Street

~

Impromptu: Plans for the summer were discussed, no impromptu
