Quoted in the Grove:
To the question: How do the authors of sketches, stories and novels get along in life, the following answer must be given: They are stragglers and they are down at heel.
~Robert Walser

Writing is the only profession where no one considers you ridiculous if you earn no money.
~Jules Renard

It’s a sad fact about our culture that a poet can earn much more money writing or talking about his art than he can by practicing it.
~W H Auden

EndQuote
Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wanted to make a million dollars, the best way to do it would be start his own religion.
~L Ron Hubbard

Different Times

The Times, postponed deadlines waiting their headlines
Political constructs, financial rankings, the social makeup
It’s not plunging necklines but a late market take-off
Not rising hemlines but losses for a  pre-tax rake-off

From hoarding bills to the cents you will
Your scions and the common sense you kill
The times you had but the end’s eventual

Times of uncertainty a face full of pimples
Olden times when sex pegged in either sin or sacred
Twas more fun when skin was sin and being naked

Quoted in the Grove:
The roots of the word ‘anarchy’ are ‘an archos,’ ‘no leaders,’ which is not really about the kind of chaos that most people imagine when the word ‘anarchy’ is mentioned. I think that anarchy is, to the contrary, about taking personal responsibility for yourself.
~Alan Moore

Chaos does not mean total disorder. Chaos means a multiplicity of possibilities. Chaos is from the ancient Greek words that means a thing that is birthed from the void. And it was about that which is possible, not about disorder.
~Jok Church

If we wish to make a new world we have the material ready. The first one, too, was made out of chaos.
~Robert Quillen

EndQuote:
Chaos is the score upon which reality is written.
~Henry Miller

First floor or Exit door
Corner of Fate and Chance
Catalyst of coincidence
Intersecting incidents
But was it Death or Love

~

What Remains

Forest floor
A patch of fronds
Feathery ferns in the mottled light
Moss thick branches brought to ground
Arboreal peace then a fight for life

A flurry of leaves
Scurrying feet at frantic speed
The squeal
A fox-caught squirrel’s only sound
A hush of the holy tho birds abound

Narrative catalysts emotional catharsis
Toppled trees like fallen warriors
Not just stories meant to distract us
Nor merely fables to teach and instruct us
Only reminders that life will destroy us

~

Shepherd’s Pie

Sheep adore and trust their shepherd
Deeply loved he’s daily peppered
Approval ratings set a record
Yet ’twas he who shocked and floored his flock
Convinced them finally that he’d run amuck

Neither deist nor atheist, humanist or scientist
Not even cannibal animist munching on mutton bits
But a trader cattle-ist, a turncoat wearing capitalist
The feast is on the meat filet mignon
When id feeds ego it decides the menu

Quoted in the Grove:
My art is not limited to the songs I create but also to the reaction it creates. I like to sit back and look at the whole thing as if it’s a tornado that I’m controlling. It’s creating chaos. When you create chaos, ideas are turned upside down, and everybody looks at things in a different way.
~Marilyn Manson

Chaos in the world brings uneasiness, but it also allows the opportunity for creativity and growth.
~Tom Barrett

Beethoven’s music tends to move from chaos to order, as if order were an imperative of human existence.
~Daniel Barenboim

EndQuote:
We adore chaos because we love to produce order.

True Romance: Three Times Goodbye

Yesterday, as my father, three brothers, and two sisters stood around my mother’s hospital bed, my mother uttered her last coherent words before she died.
She simply said, “I feel so loved right now. We should have gotten together like this more often.”

~

Today, I kissed my dad on the forehead as he passed away in a small hospital bed. About 5 seconds later, I realized it was the first time I had given him a kiss since I was a little boy.

~

Today, after I watched my dog get hit by a car, I sat on the side of the road holding him and crying. Just before he died, he licked the tears off my face.
