Quoted in the Grove:
My alma mater was books, a good library – I could spend the rest of my life reading, just satisfying my curiosity.
~Jim Morrison

Let’s just say I was testing the bounds of reality. I was curious to see what would happen. That’s all it was: curiosity.
~Jim Morrison

Curiosity is the very basis of education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat, I say only the cat died nobly.
~Arnold Edinborough

Curiosity has its own reason for existence.

Good words had been chosen at Word Games for this week’s Prewritten, but this picture intervened and demanded attention. It’s not a pretty picture but looks real, feels authentic. There’s a story behind this face. Imagine it…

Impromptu: darkness, recluse

~Miss Merry: MM Impromptu

The darkness lurks within.
Halloween mask selected,
a screaming horror.
A recluse at heart, hiding,
but longing to run amok.
Flames, pumpkins, shining knives,
blood, guts, and candy.
Do what the little voices tell you…
just for one night.

~Greenie: Guiding Stars

In the darkness of my reclusive life
filled with pain, riddled with strife

Beauty surrounds and warms my soul
lending breath allowing dreams be told

Alone in the silence of the music of the night
colorless sorrow evolves to rainbows of light

No other human within sight or sound
yet, friends caring for me, the world around

Each of you knowing, who you are
You, are the light, a guiding star

But he that dares not grasp the thorn
Should never crave the rose.
~Anne Bronte

A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free.
~Nikos Kazantzakis

Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside of them was superior to circumstances.

@Writers Platform
It has been suggested to this editor that he include his work in this club’s newsletter. The Wordgrove Post & Review has grown in purpose to encourage and feature other writers rather than as  outlet for his work. This editor will be writing daily in any case, and does not abide by rules that would allow him him to publish honestly here. Unable to leave an impromptu piece unrefined or unedited, it seems best to maintain some measure of integrity and not publish at all. This also serves as an invitation to visit Wordgrove and enjoy its other features as well.

Prewritten: vacant, critic

~Piffin: “Laughing Glass”

This critic
With vacant stare
Last night’s lips
Adultery hair
Reflecting
It shows me more
Than I care to admit
This mirror
This laughing glass
Is gone with just one hit

Impromptu: commit, crumb

~Piffin: “Garden Gate Negotiate”

I want to lose weight
I do
‘Cos the gate to my garden
Gets smaller each year
I’d love to commit
But this crumb cake’s the shit
And I’ve still got a fridge
Full of beer

One hates an author that’s all author.
~George Gordon, Lord Byron

When we see a natural style we are quite amazed and delighted, because we expected to see an author and find a man.
~Blaise Pascal

The best style is the style you don’t notice.

~MissMerry: MM’s Hurricane Update

9/3/16 Hi Y’all!

The Hurricane came ashore Thursday evening and ran us here in Crawfordville Florida right over! We had a lot of trees down and rain, but no real damage to humans, house or vehicles. I was so blessed! We had huge trees down that fell over our power line to the house, pulling the transformer pole over and breaking it… so I may not have power for a while. We have a generator and with a little redneck ingenuity we even managed to have running water (YAY running water!) and a vcr/dvd player going to keep us from being bored out of our skulls in the evening.

But, I doubt we get cable or internet for a while. Today (Saturday) I am at a sports bar in town catching up on my email and checking in here.

I really appreciate how easy technology makes our lives now that I have lost it for awhile…

Love y’all and thanks for your concern !

Sue (MM)

Prewritten: ponytail, shipwreck

~MissMerry: Prewritten by MM

The sunbeam cuts across the room
late afternoon low sun sneaking past the low shade
cuts the air into a fantasy laser show stage
as the tiny fairy dust dancers twirl in the air
spotlighted like Broadway
catching their frolic mid air.
I could imagine little tutus and ponytails twirling
dancing out dramas of love lost, armies on the march,
vikings, and epic shipwrecks as
a movement in the air sets them swirling.

It is a little sad to know they are dancing forever and always, but only seen from 5:30 to 6:10.

~Piffin: “Mall Queen”

Daddy’s little angel
Mommy’s little doppelganger
Button-cute and quick to anger
Sweet sixteen
Hike that skirt a little bit
Button down, a little tit
Smile for the yearbook
Good girl gone mean

Running with the wrong crowd
Out of step and too loud
Out of step and too loud
Boots on every crack
Bible belt haunted
Snickered at and taunted
Mall queen mercenary
Don’t look back

Ponytail shipwreck
Pillow fight apocalypse
Cheerleader hit squad
On your tail
Dreaming of a pony
Settled for some horse
Better save the college fund
You’re gonna need bail
Better save the college fund
You’re gonna need bail

Impromptu: discord, thunder

~MissMerry: MM Impromptu

The thunder crashes, rain pounds the roof…
I try to pretend everything is fine.
Pay no mind, and be aloof…
Lightning flashes, lights flicker, threaten to die.
The Gods are in discord tonight.
A Royal rumble in the sky
Winds will blow, waters will run high,
as if to cleanse the world,
sending things not made of sturdy stuff crashing.
– Will be good to know if I measure up.
