Quoted in the Grove:
There’s definitely a dangerous feeling when you’re in love–it’s giving your heart to someone else and knowing that they have control over your feelings. I know for me, who always tries to be so tough, that’s the dangerous thing.
~Beyonce Knowles

Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won’t adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is sign on as its accomplice.
~Tom Watson

When first we met we did not guess that Love would prove so hard a master.
~Robert Bridges

It is time to vote. Rumblings that more entries are pending notwithstanding, this is the last week for voting, and Saturday, Valentine’s Day, is the last day. Late drops are welcome, and remain eligible for the Gold Torch award.

The decision for online voting anticipated that the five slots available on the Tally Boards would not be enough to accommodate the number of entries. Results indicate that this overly-cautious enthusiasm was unwarranted and opened up the voting to those with no chance to read all the entries, those outside of There. Life lessons being the kind that are always learned too late to help … this time, the Wordgrove Prize is strategically positioned to do well should there be another.

To vote, go to top of the page at: http://www.wordgrove.com/contest.html

Black is back!! NathanielBlack returns to There and Wordgrove, and Gallery Black stands in place again at Wordgrove’s west end. The walls look a bit hungry for art still, but stop by, say ‘hi’, perhaps offer the loan of a favorite piece from your private collection. Art should be seen and not stored away in some pixel vault. Think of it as a homecoming gift you get to reclaim … or make it an outright gift for tax purposes. Welcome back, Black!

~Greymane:  Ballerina   (qif)

Tiny ballerina tossed into a cold aquarium
wrapped in silent waters of her sanitarium
Escaping future fears of things that may not come to pass
Her Bubbles break the surface as a giant taps the glass

Dollhouse underwater in a room without a view
The giant’s lonely daughter and a toy that she outgrew
She smiles with her final breath, freedom her ballet
The giant stomps a monstrous foot and slowly walks away

~Piffin:  haiku  (qif)

The life of the mind
Stretching with so much freedom
I can hardly breathe

Impromptu: horseman, security blanket

~Piffin: “5:30 AM”  (qif)

I’m a horseman
I’m a cavalier
I’m a pirate
A brave buccaneer
When I sleep and I dream
Across oceans I steer
My security blanket my sail
I’m a gangster
I’m a dinosaur
I am Queen of the Jungle
Hear me roar
Until my alarm clock
Rips me once more
From my slumber
With a big fail

~

~Greymane: Vanquished  (qif)

The horseman bought whiskey with memories sold
and followed his sorrow where legends unfold
He hid himself in a security blanket
He took the boat home but his selfishness sank it

Miles from nowhere he enters the ring
Beaten and vanquished he started to sing
He sang for his freedom from wisdom so cruel
it enslaved him with passions not meant for a fool

Quoted in the Grove:
If I had to live my life again, I’d make the same mistakes, only sooner.
~Tallulah Bankhead

Any life, no matter how long and complex it may be, is made up of a single moment — the moment in which a man finds out, once and for all, who he is.
~Jorge Luis Borges

Find out who you are and do it on purpose.
~Dolly Parton

Technically, the voting for 2015’s Wordgrove Prize begins today, Feb 1st. In practice, the real voting will begin next week. Questions from participating members suggest that efforts to get projects right may mean delayed drops. This editor will wait and vote late and not miss anything. To vote, or check the daily score, go to: http://www.wordgrove.com/contest.html, and click on the category link of interest at the top.

For fun: Hardware Wars (a Star Wars spoof, 13 minutes)

Prewritten: tremor, beastly

~Greymane:  Bought and Paid For  (qif)

The beastly boys cannot deny the way she makes it shake
Every time she passes by they tremor in her wake
Captivating, beautiful and just a bit obscene
Every eye is focused on the dark stiletto queen
Ruby lips and leather clad with glitter in her hair
They gathered ’round her like she was the only woman there
The center of attention in a crowded smoky bar
It seems had failed to mention what was in her cookie jar
You see she wasn’t Feminine and soft as they had thought
Turns out she was a man and all her women’s wiles were bought

 ~~

Impromptu: casualty, footfall

~Greymane: Casualty  (qif)

Silent footfalls treading paths where no one dares to go
Deserts blowing cold embrace where rivers never flow
Lonely roads through hostile lands breed casualties of fate
Somewhere on the open plains from here to where I wait
Comfort called me home behind the premise of my pain
In hopes my blind confusion found a way to keep me sane
I laid my love in shadows when the best of me had died
I found myself in bed that night pretending I could hide

~

~Greenie: Woe or Foe  (ei)
Marching boots with untended roots; racing heart, unprotected ingénue

~

~GaryBob: ~G-Impromptu-B~ (Part 2 qif)

Look deep within your soul my child
And there below you’ll someday find
A verdant world of unknown wild
Halfway between your heart and mind

No uninvited darkness there
Ephemeral casualty
Gypsy footfalls around the fair
Time’s everlasting amnesty

So if you’re ever on the run
Though you take yourself far and wide
You’ll only reach one conclusion
That true soul searching starts inside
