Quoted in the Grove:
I write a chapter to a book, and I go into a frenzied froth, as I wail and tear at my hair, with so much of my soul exposed, with so much of myself put to paper, with so much of myself laid bare.
~Darian Land

Writers should be read, but neither seen nor heard.
~Daphne du Maurier

Wanting to meet an author because you like his work is like wanting to meet a duck because you like pate.
~Margaret Atwood

Posted from the Grove:
Circumstances being what they are, having less time to put out this newsletter has had the happy effect of creating fresh opportunity for other writers. Tho restricted in length by clubmail limits, the Post & Review needs worthwhile reading to fill what space it does have. Time crunch on one side of the fulcrum has opened up space on the other side for active members of Wordgrove’s writing circle to be featured in their own words

As much as possible whole poems will be included, but constraints on length mean that selections must be short. Otherwise, favorite lines from poems and short story sentences will be selected for quoting each week. To these member writers: please have patience with this editor’s choice if it does not agree with your own. Be happy that someone took something new from your words

Best advice to our readers: As you get familiar with the voices you hear in the Post & Review, visit Wordgrove’s Platform and read your favorite pieces in their entirety. Catch up on the talent you’ve been reading about; come read them in the original, @Wordgrove

FYI: Abbreviations that appear in this newsletter:

pr = previously reviewed
qif = quoted in full
qip = quoted in part (Favorite lines are listed)

~Greenie:
Besotted (pr)
Shadow Dance (pr)
On Golden Beams (pr)

Shadow and Light
Bleakness as a way of being, bleakness with a reason, life in the shadows; then a step into light, a choice to see the world differently, to look for discoveries and to see beauty

~GaryBob: Inkling (qif)

Tiny little creature
Stubborn and alone
Tiny little feature
Always monotone

Irremovable
Concavity convex
Irrepressible
Simplistic yet complex

Spot-thing
Knot-ring
Ashes all aglow

Spot-thing
Shot-wing
Cinders in the snow

Irresponsible
Maliciously benign
Irrefutable
Demonic yet divine

Tiny little tatter
Scrap upon a stage
Tiny little splatter
Spot upon a page

Prewritten: paisley, savannah

~Greymane:  Insomnia (qip)
Favorite lines: 1-4 and 7-8

I took a safari to places inside
Through silent savannahs where predators hide
Through long sleepless nights when my inner voice screams
of bell-bottomed summers and paisley extremes

Of too many losses and not enough wins
Regretting my future before it begins

~Piffin:  “Cracks” (qip)
Favorite lines: 16-23

I know why the caged bird
Sneaks out late at night
To run with the wolves
To howl past the tracks
To hunt down and kill
All the goodness one lacks
I pray for my mother
While stepping on cracks

~BarTalk: the shawl

~

Impromptu: infinite, consume

~Piffin: “Moth” (qip)
Favorite lines: #8-14

Penitence
A guilty pleasure
Assonance
Don’t fail me as I measure
The words I’ve never said
The ones that spin my head
And rip me from the ancient crosses

~Greymane: Distant
The memories are real but visit only in dreams … that was then

Favorite Line: the last one
I would follow her home but I’m already here

~GaryBob: Dulgence (qip)
Favorite lines: 1-4

Man cannot live on bread alone
The austere life is dry
Man cannot live on crumb and bone
Unsalted tears to cry

~Greenie: Flipped (qip)
What it’s like to resist laughter, and lose
Favorite lines: 3-7

infinite giggles
released
cheeks in perma grin
pinkened
gigglebox flipped
