Quoted in the Grove:

Men are like the earth and we are the moon; we turn always one side to them, and they think there is no other, because they don’t see it / but there is.
~Olive Shreiner

You have to be very fond of men. Very, very fond. You have to be very fond of them to love them. Otherwise they’re simply unbearable.
~Marguerite Duras

Women may be the one group that grows more radical with age.
~Gloria Steinem

A favorite quote:
If you want to give the gods a good laugh, tell them your plans for the future. ~John Chancellor

This will serve as Wordgrove’s official explanation for the response to our plans for OnStage  @Wordgrove East. It appears that a choice other than a free weekend (when everyone will be out in their knickers and finery entertaining crowds), would have been a more judicious choice. Seemingly, the talent has already been signed and have gigs for the night. This is the hopeful reason. Or there remains the bleak prospect that the talent pool is drying up, or they don’t care to make music anymore. This editor blinks in consternation that either of these might be true

We’ll do our little bit anyway. Good practice. We’ll plant our Activity flag, give it an hour, then hotfoot it over to Thumdar’s musical extravaganza in Tyr’s Boneyard where the kickin’ action is. Or we can climb the sky with our hover boards on the Bones for a while, or go buggy jousting at a bridge (huge fun for 20 minutes) … or just hang out and chat

If interested in a different sort of interlude between sets of your favorite performers, drop by Wordgrove East Fri evening (5/9) @6p PT/9p ET for readings and chat. Click on the link below to visit OnStage for a preview:

Greenie has designed a Standing Tag with Microphone for use OnStage that works with Shoutcast. This would be a chance to stop by and see how it works. She is also designing a contained-light box for directing beamed light on a performance. A fully functioning spotlight. Entertainers take note

~Greymane: The Box
The key, a box, a rock; love, a coffin, the juju that holds memory; keepsakes

Impromptu: chessman, marble

~Piffin: “Crumbs”

~Greymane: Chessman
The King and Queen of statues, one wields power while the other wears a crown; brutal wars lay waste the population, trade this for that, metaphoric battles of the Board

~Greenie: Waiting
Age old enmities, positions hardened into stone; the waiting’s over, let the board war begin

~Jessalee: And then, there were two
Only the seductive warrior Queen, the praying mantis of royalty who eats her mates, and the lowly pawn, a helpless fawn of the wild wood, remain to save the realm; Queen Amazon lays into the opposing ranks and dies in sacrifice, leaves the tender one to move up and seduce the King

~Stejovis: What Happens When Not Inspired (quoted)

a writer named agate the crusty
tells a tale that’s entirely trusty.
seems a chessman she knew
lost a marble or two
and his games have become something lusty.

Editor’s note:  One wants to see the word ‘notably’ used somewhere in the poem.  Tasty sweet for impromptu

~BarTalk: not-a-haiku
